Final Goodbyes
Final Goodbyes
Watched the sun sink low on that old front porch
Your keys in my hand, but I ain’t reachin’ for more
We said all the words that we both already knew
Still my heart’s holdin’ on like it’s scared of the truth
Yeah the silence hits different when the story’s done
No more “maybe someday,” no more setting sun
This is the finality of goodbyes
The door that locks tight, no more alibis
It stings like the truth and it burns like the fire
But somewhere inside I can feel the desire
To stand in the ashes and still see the light
The finality of goodbyes…
Yeah it’s hard, but it’s right
I replayed every laugh, every fight in my head
All the ways that we grew, all the tears that we shed
You taught me to love without losing myself
Now I’m learning to let go and trust in the help
‘Cause the weight of forever ain’t mine to carry no more
I’m laying it down on this hardwood floor
This is the finality of goodbyes
The chapter that closes, the truth in my eyes
It cuts like a knife but it heals like the tide
Washing the old me away with the ride
I’m standing taller in the afterglow
The finality of goodbyes…
Yeah I’m ready to go
And if I see you someday down some winding road
I’ll smile and wave and let the feeling go
‘Cause I know we were beautiful, yeah we were true
But beautiful things gotta end so something new can bloom This is the finality of goodbyes
The last page I’m turning, no more what-ifs or whys
It hurts for a minute, then the freedom arrives
Like the first breath of morning after all of those nights
I’m keepin’ my head up, keepin’ my heart wide
The finality of goodbyes…
Is the start of my life
Watched the sun sink low on that old front porch
Your keys in my hand, but I ain’t reachin’ for more
We said all the words that we both already knew
Still my heart’s holdin’ on like it’s scared of the truth
