Magnets at Dawn
Magnets at Dawn
It’s not your fault your smile keeps torching through my skull,
leaving trails of liquid fire that refuse to cool or dull.
Still you’ll have to pay for every scar you burn into my veins,
bright and permanent as ink that only your name stains.
This hunger’s bigger than the both of us, merciless and wide,
a tide that drags us under where no logic can abide. Hearts are magnets slamming shut inside the velvet dark,
clicking hard with iron hunger no distance can ever mark.
Out of nowhere fingers soften, melt like warm and weightless feathers,
trembling soft across your skin like whispered midnight letters.
All I crave—so stupid, simple, aching in its need—
is you at first light, raw and real, no armor left to bleed:
stripped of makeup, sweatpants slung low on your hips just so,
hair a wild and sleepy storm that frames your morning glow. It’s not my fault those eyes of yours stretch endless as the sea,
bottomless wells of midnight blue that swallow every part of me.
I tumble in without a sound, I drown there willingly,
lost inside their quiet depths where only you and I can be.
So I’m done fighting the current this time, let it carry me away—
it’s obvious this ache is bigger than both of us today. Don’t you vanish on me, love, don’t slip into the night alone,
don’t you dare to call this wildfire something I dreamed on my own.
I refuse to believe those lies, I won’t swallow the doubt,
this feeling beats too loud and real for any heart to shut it out.
Bare, messy, and mine—
your raw morning face is all I want to own.
