UNTITLED

UNTITLED

Your words were a tempest, big talker,

Tainting the stream of our discourse,

I wear your barbs like a crown of thorns,

Grateful it wasn’t me who spoke first.

Never before could I envision

Stepping beyond the threshold of us,

Thoughtless syllables, thoughtless syllables,

Hush now, enough.

But that portal, once sealed, now stands ajar,

Irrevocable, the truth exposed,

Thoughtless syllables, thoughtless syllables,

Forever disclosed, forever disclosed.

I strove to keep my spirit unblemished,

Yet it emerged scarred and worn,

Endeavored to nurture love’s fragile flame,

But found only ashes to mourn.

As a child, I learned to shutter the windows,

To silence the storm’s cruel refrain,

That tainted stream, big talker,

That desolate, echoing plain.

Sleepless, I wander, big talker,

Through nights that stretch without end,

Your name ignites a fire in my mind,

A relentless blaze that won’t mend.

Where did your love vanish, big talker?

For there my heart endlessly roams,

I’m no longer present, big talker,

I’m adrift in the void, alone.

Never before could I envision

Stepping beyond the threshold of us,

Thoughtless syllables, thoughtless syllables,

Hush now, enough.

But that portal, once sealed, now stands ajar,

Irrevocable, the truth exposed,

Thoughtless syllables, thoughtless syllables,

Forever disclosed,

You can never unspeak.
