Until the Stars Fade

I ask you to linger,

through the eons’ quiet spin,

until my roots sink deep,

beneath the earth’s ancient skin.  

If you drift, I’ll follow,

a comet trailing your glow,

for you are my orbit,

the gravity I’ve always known.  

If my light begins to dim,

let me fade within your gaze,

no spark left to kindle,

without you to set me ablaze.  

Like twin rivers carved in stone,

we’re meant to merge, to flow,

I swore I’d brave the wild alone,

but with you, I’ve found my home.  

The seasons may shift,

the skies may not stay,

but if this is eternal,

it’s worth every day.  

I don’t know why my heart weeps,

or how it could hold you more,

but as long as I breathe, my love,

you’re the tide to my shore.  

Until the stars burn out,

until the night claims my flame,

until the cosmos forgets my name.
