IN THE FOREST OF MY HEART

In the Forest of My Heart

In the shadowed woods, you stood near,

Branches apart, leaves brushing close,

Your voice a melody through the trees,

Stirring the forest of my heart.

We spoke in whispers, we spoke in storms,

But your gaze was a distant star,

And my ears sought another song,

Yet it was you, always you.

Each step a choice, each bend a test,

Can you follow where the river flows?

The weight of water against your chest,

The endless current of what we chose.

And you weigh it against the hollow ache,

The quiet void that never rests,

But in the end, it’s you I take,

In every breath, in every test.

My heart, once a mighty oak, now splintered,

Its rings telling tales of love and loss,

Exiled to the forest’s edge, where shadows linger,

And only the night creatures bear witness.

Now it dreams in the dark, chased by phantoms,

Their eyes like lanterns in the gloom,

And in each howl, each rustle of the wild,

It is you, always you.
