POEM FOR A YOUNG BOY

 POEM FOR A YOUNG BOY

If I were a star in the velvet night,

A beacon for dreams, a wish-granter’s light,

I’d shine through the darkness, steadfast and true,

Gathering prayers that were meant for you.

I’d weave you a blanket of starlight so bright,

To shield you from December’s bitter bite.

With whispers of warmth, I’d lull you to rest,

Easing your burdens, your heart gently blessed.

In the face of life’s storms, I’d stand as your guard,

A sentinel star, ever watchful and hard.

No violence could touch you, no fear would remain,

For my light would banish the shadows of pain.

I’d tuck you in tight, under covers of light,

Keep you safe from the cold, from the fright.

Take away hurt, let it fade out of sight,

So you can sleep soundly, if only tonight.

Through life’s winding paths, I’d be your guide,

With dreams in your heart, and hope by your side.

No worry too heavy, no doubt too deep,

For in my light, your faith you’d keep.

So close your eyes now, let peace be your friend,

Know that my watch will never end.

For as long as the stars in the heavens do dwell,

I’ll be your star, wishing you well.
