Gone is near what do I mean

Watching what may come and go

Choosing steps to take it slow

Trust is thin just like air

Not myself nor those who stare

Hello stranger is it you

Should I open or just view

Who will I let in my door

Turn off lights or just ignore

Peep holes show me who is there

Close the blinds or show I care

Porch light's out shadows fall

Emptiness inside these walls

Decide who to greet with grace

Or pretend a vacant place

Guarding heart with all my might

Holding on through darkest night

Strangers pass by all the same

Who to trust who shares my name
